Rafting Down the American River ~ Our Annual "Adventure" ~
followed by a Pool Party and Dinner

WHAT: The Sacramento CMG Events Committee is hosting its annual rafting trip down the scenic American River. This is a fun summer adventure and the men who have joined us in prior summers have all had a great time. In addition to our Sacramento area men, we have had men from the Bay Area and even a few from Southern California. This will be a great way to spend a summer day relaxing with friends and meeting new friends as you paddle, float, sun, and swim in one of the clearest rivers in the west. We will end the day with a pool party and dinner at Rich's house.

DESCRIPTION OF TRIP: This rafting excursion is on the lower American River (a class II river). Most of the trip consists of a relaxing float down the river, although there may be a few water fights with other rafters. Approximately half way down the river we will pass through the San Juan Rapids. These rapids are exciting to navigate, but they are very manageable by even first-time rafters. We will stop at various sites such as the Chalk Cliffs (which is a great place to jump into the water and swim) and perhaps one of the river islands to share our picnic lunches.

SCHEDULE: We will gather at 10:00 a.m. at American River Raft Rentals (near the Sunrise Blvd exit from Hwy 50 in Rancho Cordova just a few miles east of Sacramento see directions below). After securing our rafts (holding 8 or 10 men each) we plan launch  10.30 a.m-11:00 am. We will make our way down the river, stop and have a picnic lunch together, and arrive River Bend Park sometime around 3:00 or 3:30 p.m. Our arrival time at River Bend will depend on how long we stop for lunch and how fast the river is moving that day (which varies depending on how much water is being released from Nimbus Dam on any particular day). Upon arriving at the park, we will turn in our rafts and take a shuttle bus back to our vehicles. We will then drive over to Rich’s house for a pool party (Clothing Optional) and dinner.

WHERE: Sacramento Area -- Hwy 50 & Sunrise -- American River Raft Rentals, 11257 Bridge St., Rancho Cordova, CA 95670  (Pool Party/Dinner address to Rich's house and directions will be handed out at the Raft Rental meeting place. We meet at the Picnic Benches at the Left side of the Raft Rental building.

WHAT TO BRING: Sun screen, sunglasses, bathing suit, towel, a bag lunch and beverages (no glass containers).  Bring plastic zip lock bags for items that you don't want to get wet.  Everything will get wet, including you.  You may bring beer or wine for the raft trip and the pool party and dinner afterwards.  A small light-weight ice chest is advisable to keep your lunch and drinks cold. Its easy to get dehydrated, so be sure to bring along plenty of water and/or other beverages. Although very clean for swimming, it is not advisable to drink river water. You may want to bring along old running shoes or tennis shoes to protect your feet from sharp rocks and/or possible broken glass when getting in and out of your raft. Depending on how much sun you like and/or you are used to, you may want to bring along a hat. You will be in the sun on the raft and on the shore for about 4 hours.  If you like water sports, bring along Water Pistols and Water Bazookas.YOU WILL GET WET !!! DO NOT wear your favorite Gucci pumps. Please do not bring pets.

COST: The cost will be $45.00.  This includes a $5.00 per raft damage waiver, a $2.50 Sacramento County launch fee per raft, and a $5.00 charge per person for the shuttle bus back to the launch site, and dinner. You do not need to pay in advance, but be sure to have cash available when we get our rafts. Parking is $5.00 per car (although it is possible to park free on the road)

DIRECTIONS: American River Rafting: From the San Francisco Bay Area, take Interstate 80 East to Sacramento. In West Sacramento, I-80 will split, and the right hand lanes will head for Reno, Nevada. The left lanes will turn into Highway 50 towards South Lake Tahoe. Continue on Highway 50 approximately 20 miles. You will pass these exits: Watt Ave, Bradshaw Rd, Mather Field Blvd, and Zinfandell. The next exit is Sunrise Blvd. Take this exit north (bear to the left on the off-ramp and loop under the over-pass). Travel about 1.5 miles north on Sunrise and turn right on South Bridge Street just before Sunrise crosses the American River. American River Raft Rentals is visible from Sunrise. (Address above at WHERE )  More Info on American Raft Rentals web site  Click Here.

CAUTION: River water is usually much colder than most men expect ( usually around 52 Degrees F, even on very hot days.  Additionally, releases from the damn fluctuate and the River can run faster than what individuals may have experienced in the past. Although this is mostly a rather gentle float down the river, accidents can happen. We are asking everyone to please wear their life jackets on the rafts.   The water is  very cold, and people can be overcome by dord warter in a very shoret time. The life jackets are to wear to avoid being accidentally overcome by the cold water temperature.

You Must RSVP: Please let us know if you are going to join us. We need to make sure that American River Raft Rentals will have enough rafts for us. We have made reservations, but without exact numbers, we cannot be sure there will be enough rafts for us. If we come up short (and the rafting company does not have extra rafts available), those who do not let us know they are coming will have to be turned away. Please RSVP to Raft Trip   Above.
