CMG-LA Presents:

Winter Solstice Ceremony with the Gay Men's Medicine Circle

Many of our year-end holiday traditions are translations and borrowing of how our ancient ancestors celebrated the return of the Sun on the Winter Sosltice. From this point in the year the days get longer in the northern hemisphere as the earth's north pole tilt moves past the point where it most directly points away from the sun.

And so, we will celebrate the Solstice outoors with indoors available in case of rain and we will have a WINTER SOLSTICE FIRE, unless it is a "no burn" day  per the SCAQMD. This is an excellent time to review your year and to make plans for the one to come.

Traditionally the Gay Men's Medicine Circle burns a medicine bundle that we have created at the Spring and Fall Equinoxes and Summer Solstice of the current year.  We encourage participants to bring a note or small object to cast into the fire, representing something that they want to leave behind, or celebrating a wonderful occurence during the year.  It should be small (a paper note is fine) and natural (burning plastic smells dreadful!)

There is a small snack social afterwards, so if you can, bring something snacky (baked goods, chips & dip, vegetable tray, fruit, beverages, etc).

Our Hosts: The Gay Men's Medicine Circle is a small group of men who resonate to old, shamanic spirituality and wish to serve the community. They offer workshops and trainings to strengthen the community and many of its members are also active CMGers.

Did you know: That is Stonehenge in Southern England, on the evening of the Winter Solstice at Sunset in the image at the top of this post. It and similar structures in Europe were constructed over a long period of time, but the amount of labor poured into them was immense for the size of the population. There was construction and modification for 1500 years from 3100BC to 1600BC. The largest stones probably came from a quarry 25 miles away. Even if they were sitting right "there", they weigh about 25 tons each and there are 30 of them.

While Stonehenge is in the far SOUTH of England for us North Americans It would lie just beyond the Northern outskirts of Calgary, Canada!
