1969: West Germany repeals laws prohibiting gay acts between consenting adults. Applies to males only as lesbianism was never proscribed by West German law. 1977: The present-day Log Cabin Republicans organization is founded as the “Gay Republicans” club, a group of lesbians and gays within the United States’ Republican Party. 1979: New Jersey decriminalizes private consensual homosexual acts. 2001: Anthony Romero (36) assumed the office of executive director for the ACLU, the first Latino and openly gay man to head the organization. 2007: Idaho Sen. Larry Craig announced his resignation, saying he would leave office on Sept. 30, 2007, in the wake of fallout over his arrest and guilty plea in a Minnesota airport gay sex sting. However, Craig later reversed his decision, saying he would serve out the rest of his term. 2009: Vermont’s same-sex marriage law goes into effect. 2018: Binky’s List September 2018 issue is published.
